Amlets Construction Traffic

Cala Homes have confirmed in their revised Construction Traffic Management Plan that the preferred exit route for construction traffic leaving the development site will no longer be via Cranleigh high street as was previously stated.  The primary route  leaving the site is now proposed to be westwards along Amlets Lane:

“It is preferred all delivery vehicles return westwards along Amlets Lane and follow Smith Common Road, Guildford Road, Run Common and back on to the A281 and into Guildford. However it is accepted that in exceptional circumstances site vehicles can travel via the alternative departure route below.”

Site deliveries are proposed between the following hours:

Monday to Friday – 0930hrs to 15:00hrs – 16:00hrs to 17:30hrs
Saturday – 09:30hrs to 13:00hrs

The Residents’ Liaison Group, set up by the Cranleigh Society, is awaiting full details from Cala Homes re temporary road widening proposals on Amlets Lane currently being considered by Surrey County Council Highways.

We still have serious concerns regarding road safety for users of this narrow country lane and would urge our members to continue to inform us of any incidents they witness and to take photos only when it is safe to do so.

Can anyone confirm that a sane representative of Cala Homes has actually visited Cranleigh, particularly Amletts Lane and the High Street, let alone made the journey to Guildford? Perhaps they are using a 1950’s OS MAP?

The road cutting through Smithwood Common is narrow and not capable of supporting sustained use by heavy goods vehicles. It is also crossed regularly by countless walkers.
The skyline has already been scarred by the erection of a hideous house(?) on the hill side up behind Nells Platt- Heavy construction and later more residential traffic will complete the desecration of yet another of Cranleigh’s beautiful recreational areas.

Peter Reeds comments are spot on, both about the road and about that awful house!

I was brought up on the Park Mead estate, not far from Amlets Lane. This was thoughtfully, if not aesthetically, constructed with a parade of shops and a primary and junior school (I was one of the first pupils to enter it). This was sustainable development with facilities for families. Even so, The Ewehurst road became increasingly busy. Amlets Lane was always very dangerous. This new development will put huge pressure on Park Mead and other schools such as Cuthbert Mayne and Glebe lands. .will this mean they must lose more of their playing fields to extension building? If the Cala Homes development goes ahead, Amlets Lane will be gridlocked with cars of thosewho can drive and those who cannot dribe will be isolatedoing by an expensive and scanty bus service. Cannot believe this is happening. .someone needs to check how many council planning bigwigs have shares in Cala..
