Cranleigh Society hosted a lovely Heritage afternoon on Friday in the Band room
It was great to have a chance to listen and chat with some of our special older residents of Cranleigh. We are truly lucky – what a privilege.
Memories, letters, photos and stories
Historic stories help us all to understand the ebb and flow of family life, and especially appreciate those who have worked for our community for decades.
They brought special letters and newspaper articles from their own past lives in Cranleigh and enjoyed sharing those with each other and us.
Joy Horn – who researches and writes for Cranleigh Magazine – brought interesting photos and shared those too.
A proper afternoon tea event
We provided tea, coffee, cakes and biscuits, all set out with an old embroidered table cloth, vases of spring flowers and using a pretty china tea set – all really appreciated.
Footage of hospital life
Trevor managed to show some films taken in the 1970s and 1980s at Cranleigh Village Hospital which all enjoyed. It was fun to see our doctors at the hospital when they were so young! One film shows the moments when the hospital beds were closed…..
Memories captured on film for the future interest and understanding of all
The best bit? Martin Bamford set up a film studio in the side piano room and interviewed each person for about 20 minutes, with Wendy Gibson asking suitable questions which helped to draw out interesting memories. The videos will be published on line soon.
Success
We feel this was such a success that we will repeat it, and hope to bring more delightful people in to share their memories.
Thank you so much to all those involved – We will do this again
Please get in touch.
best wishes for a lovely bank holiday weekend

The Team
Thankyou for afternoon tea in true style and the kind hospitality.
I confirm that it proved to be a most interesting time in sharing our memories of old Cranleigh.
