Every Life is important – some we know more than others…
In 1974 a few Cranleigh residents decided to form a Lions Club – in order to formally raise funds to help others in the community. Today marks the passing of Lion Phil Tilbury, who joined in 1974 and has helped so many people along the way. For more information please see the web site here
Lions Clubs International was started in the USA – ‘The International Association of Lions Clubs, more commonly known as Lions Clubs International, is an international service organization established in 1917 in Chicago, Illinois, by Melvin Jones.’ read more here
Lion Trevor had recorded Phil chatting a little about his life in Cranleigh. Cranleigh Society is starting to record a few older folks tales to be seen and heard by others and generations to come.

Yes, remember the Lions taking over from The Bomfire boys. Believe Phil’s membership of the Royal British Legion was even longer 70 + years. RIP Phil.
Hi Steve, you’re absolutely correct. Many of you may remember Phil from his days making the legendary Collins sausages, when Collins was a dedicated pork butcher in what is now Collins Court. Phil was a wonderful man who I have never heard a bad word said against. Not many can lay claim to that.
Yes, my dad worked with Phil as a butcher at Collins so we didn’t go short of their sausages or joints of meat.
Sad to hear of Phil’s Death. He was so much part of the Cranleigh scene. I remember him from cricket and, of course, Collins butcher shop.
